I’m over the moon!!
My quilt “passionate pink tulips” has been juried into the AQS Des Moines show in early October. I still can’t believe it. I worked on it for over a year. I originally snapped a photo of these tulips a couple years back around mothers day. All the tulips were still closed except one. The center tulip was the only one open and it begged me to take it’s picture. It was my goal to do extra large flowers on a quilt.

Now I have to figure out how to to get to Des Moines to see the show.

Here is a preview of my next quilt…..sorry about the poor quality image.

“Whether You Think You Can or Can’t, You’re Right” -Henry Ford

“The Wall Street Journal recently published an article about the significance of our beliefs and the mental models, or mindsets that shape our behavior. According to the psychologists interviewed for the piece, we act and perform in accordance with the beliefs these models tell us is true…

For example, if you think something is not possible or out of your reach, you’re probably not going to commit much energy and resources to accomplishing that goal…Old habits die slowly because they are driven by an outdated mindset… In order to replace old habits though a change in your mindset, there are three steps you should follow:

1. First, begin by specifically identifying the results you want.
2. Then create and develop actions that will accomplish those results.
3. Lastly, examine your beliefs about those actions to determine if they are holding you back…

So if you want to achieve your goals, create a mindset made of beliefs that support the truth you want in your future.”

More work…

I’ve been quite busy these days, rather these evenings and weekends with a few new projects. The first top I’ve completed is a yellow poppies. yellowpoppies
This is a wonderful pattern created by Lenore Crawford. I learned so much from reading and following her pattern instructions.

The second project I’m working on is still in progress but I thought you might like to take a peek.pinktulips
I really excited about this project for two reasons. One, I’m working on my favorite flower (the tulip) and two, these are the larges flowers I’ve done so far. The open tulip is approximately 30 inches. (Can you see my feet at the very bottom of the image?) My goal is to create extra large botanical themed quilts. I was so inspired by Melinda Bula’s book Cutting Garden Quilts and (she was a featured artist on The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims) that I had to start making my own.

Petunia Garden

I’ve been MIA for quite sometime but I have been working several projects. Last summer I shot photos of potted petunias that were on my front porch. The photos were so nice I thought it would make a great quilt.  I’ve done the basic layout here.

I also needed to do a test of the thread painting. So, I took several left over flowers and fused them to a black fabric. I think they are coming along very nicely.
A special thanks to Susan Edmonson and Susan Knapp for all their tips when thread painting.

NC Quilt Symposium 2010

NCQS_2010_Logo_charlotte_web

I’m so excited to be on the board of this year’s quilt symposium. Everyone is working hard to have the best facility (Johnson & Wales), the best teachers and make this the best symposium ever. Above is the logo I created. I includes the “carolina lily” as well as dashed lines that represent hand or machine stitching. The colors are representative of the typical “carolina lily” block. I had a great time creating the logo….I haven’t done a FUN logo in forever. I’m happy to say that it’s up on the logo lounge website.   http://www.logolounge.com/

Logo lounge is a great site for logo inspiration.
