The best place for any cat is lying on your latest quilt creation. Tootie isn’t picky just so long as he can spread out and relax because he’s had an extremely busy day.
“Whether You Think You Can or Can’t, You’re Right” -Henry Ford

According to the psychologists interviewed for the piece, we act and perform in accordance with the beliefs these models tell us is true…
For example, if you think something is not possible or out of your reach, you’re probably not going to commit much energy and resources to accomplishing that goal…Old habits die slowly because they are driven by an outdated mindset… In order to replace old habits though a change in your mindset, there are three steps you should follow:
1. First, begin by specifically identifying the results you want.
2. Then create and develop actions that will accomplish those results.
3. Lastly, examine your beliefs about those actions to determine if they are holding you back…
So if you want to achieve your goals, create a mindset made of beliefs that support the truth you want in your future.”

I’ve been quite busy these days, rather these evenings and weekends with a few new projects. The first top I’ve completed is a yellow poppies.
This is a wonderful pattern created by Lenore Crawford. I learned so much from reading and following her pattern instructions.
The second project I’m working on is still in progress but I thought you might like to take a peek.
I really excited about this project for two reasons. One, I’m working on my favorite flower (the tulip) and two, these are the larges flowers I’ve done so far. The open tulip is approximately 30 inches. (Can you see my feet at the very bottom of the image?) My goal is to create extra large botanical themed quilts. I was so inspired by Melinda Bula’s book Cutting Garden Quilts and (she was a featured artist on The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims) that I had to start making my own.
I’ve been MIA for quite sometime but I have been working several projects. Last summer I shot photos of potted petunias that were on my front porch. The photos were so nice I thought it would make a great quilt. I’ve done the basic layout here.
I also needed to do a test of the thread painting. So, I took several left over flowers and fused them to a black fabric. I think they are coming along very nicely.
A special thanks to Susan Edmonson and Susan Knapp for all their tips when thread painting.

I’m so excited to be on the board of this year’s quilt symposium. Everyone is working hard to have the best facility (Johnson & Wales), the best teachers and make this the best symposium ever. Above is the logo I created. I includes the “carolina lily” as well as dashed lines that represent hand or machine stitching. The colors are representative of the typical “carolina lily” block. I had a great time creating the logo….I haven’t done a FUN logo in forever. I’m happy to say that it’s up on the logo lounge website. http://www.logolounge.com/
Logo lounge is a great site for logo inspiration.
I took a wonderful beading class with Deanna Hartman a couple of months ago and I can’t stop beading.
And, I’m so thankful I live here. We Really are a great nation and we can fire all those in office when we need to. Obama is the change we need.
Check out this photo of me and my sisters. Check out the hairdo. We had this “professional” photo taken as a gift for my father. I remember so much about this photo…curling my hair the night before…the long drive on the highway to the photographers studio….the white headband that pinched behind my ears….the red dress that was too short…the half smile on my face…everyone telling me not to smile……what? don’t smile, don’t say “cheese”?
This photo sat on my father’s desk until he passed away.

I wanted to post a few pics of what I’ve been working. I love Paris, so I thought I’d do a mini-quilt saying so. It’s very challenging figuring out what goes were and everything I should include but it’s also so much fun. I’m really love beading and I’ve been looking through all my old Quilting Art’s magazines. They are an incredible resource for beading techniques. I can’t wait till Deana Hartman comes to the guild in October.
What I’ve finished lately…

I recently took a wonderful class with Lyric Kinard, Surface Design Sampler Platter. I had a great time and learned so much. Below is the book cover I created. On the front cover I created a stamp of a leaf. This was done by carving a leaf form into an eraser and then using fabric paint to stamp it. I later added a few beads and flower beads. I had too much fun.

Below is the back of the book cover. Similar techniques were used, more stamping but here I got to bead. LOVED IT! I attached a cabochon and then beaded around it, enough to bend over the cabochon to hold it in place. I then beaded around the leaves for fun. During the class we also did some photo transfer, foil stamping and screen printing. I had a wonderful time and I got the Mark seal of approval, “that’s cool, you could give that as a gift”

The project below is from the the class I took from Susan Brubaker Knapp. The class was ’start with photo’. I learned so much and liked the class so much I HAD to finish the project. I found thread painting to be so much FUN. I can’t wait to try it again. I hope to do some type of flowers for my next project.

A detail of the stone. I was very pleased with the stone area. I think they probably would have looked better if I had used a gray that was more modeled. The grass was quite difficult. I definitely should have used a print here.
